5 Ways to Think Like an Entrepreneur

June 27, 2018 by sisteract

Think Like an Entrepreneur

1. Take a walk. If you have yet to form a concrete idea, we suggest that you take a walk. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and hit the streets. Studies have shown that walking is linked to innovative ideas. There is something unique about physically moving forward that helps the brain automatically do the same thing. While walking, intentionally think about what makes you come alive and different ways that you can help solve a problem or create something new. When you return from your walk, write down any ideas that came to mind.

2. Practice vulnerability. Invite a trusted friend into your creative process. Bouncing your ideas off someone will help you solidify them and find any potential pitfalls. A second opinion also has the ability to help you enrich the idea. Community is important when you are about to courageously step forward into the unknown.

3. Know your story. Depending on what your idea is, it is time to intentionally create your social blueprint. Let’s do this right from the very start! First things first, what is your overall message? How does your idea enhance the consumer’s life or generally help people? What makes this idea unique? Your message is extremely important, because it is the story that you will be weaving throughout the branding process in order to cohesively share your idea. With your story in mind, it is time to either come up with a name that matches your vision or make sure that the name you already chose is in line with your story.

4. Create consistent branding. With your story and name in mind, what colors or themes do you think of? It is important to remain cohesive throughout your social presence. We recommend choosing two to three colors and sticking with those for any and all material that you produce. Alternatively, if you are going for a more eclectic look with a variety of colors, we suggest pairing these colors with a continuous neutral. We also recommend utilizing only the same two or three fonts. It is best to figure out your colors and fonts at the very start.

5. Lift off! Great. You have a your idea and your story locked and loaded. Moving forward, it is time to secure your social handles (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.) and website. If your name is taken, don’t fret. It will be okay. Consider using a dot or an underscore. Alternatively, come up with a few more names to search.

What is IGTV?

IGTV is making waves, and this is really only the beginning. As more and more of Instagram’s massive user base (800 million as of September and soon to be 1 billion) adopt IGTV into their daily lives, the platform is going to become a major source for driving sales in businesses of all types of sizes. The features of IGTV are numerous, cutting-edge, and exciting. Featuring both vertical screen and full screen videos, IGTV is compatible with recordings of all types, and creators can upload their videos via either Instagram or the web.

YouTube vs IGTV

Fully integrated with the Instagram app, IGTV is also its own standalone platform, at once a part of the already-successful Instagram community and its own thing entirely. The platform is similar to YouTube, in that users can subscribe to creators’ channels to keep up with the content they care about most, but it also draws heavily from the personality and tone that have come to define Instagram as a whole. In the near future, Instagram is expected to offer a monetization option for IGTV creators, at which point the whole game is going to change.

It is not just possible to make use of IGTV as a business: it’s necessary. To stay ahead of the curve, start mastering this fresh platform for yourself right away!

Key Features

  • IGTV allows users to utilize the "swipe up" feature, which means that even smaller business profiles have the opportunity to be gain more engagement.
  • If you have already created content on YouTube, migrate key content to IGTV and utilize the swipe up feature.
  • Use IGTV as a way to introduce yourself or share about your newest business venture!

4 Things I Wish I Knew Before Traveling to India

June 5, 2018 by sisteract

  • Make sure your passport has a minimum of two blank pages. You won’t be able to leave without it.
  • Print out all of your airline tickets. You will need to show your printed tickets in order to get into the airport. We have seen countless travelers turned away.
  • Bring the credit card that you purchased your flights with. For some airlines, foreigners will need to show their credit card. We almost missed a flight because of this and the only way around it is to purchase a new ticket.
  • The Delhi Belly is real. Bring some Activated Charcoal and DiaResQ. If your symptoms persist, you can easily (almost too easily) purchase prescription medicine in India.

Jade Facial Roller

Jade Facial Roller

Anyone else struggling to keep both eyes wide open this Monday?

We recently learned a beauty tip we are in LOVE with.

Have you ever heard of Jade Facial Rollers? If not, look them up straight away. There are many benefits to incorporating Jade Facial Rollers into your morning routine!

Gently rolling out your face decreases puffiness + lines. It also tightens the skin. The natural anti-inflammatory property of Jade helps reduce redness, sensitive skin, and acne.

We keep our rollers in the freezer, which is extra helpful for perking up sleepy eyes.

Anyone else a total fangirl?

5 Things I wish I rocked in my early 20s…

March 5, 2018 by sisteract

Caryn Noel Photography

You know the phrase, “hindsight is 20/20?” I hate how true it is. I’m quickly approaching 30 (Caryn Noel here) and I want to share a few things I wish I knew sooner. I hope it helps you!

AIRLINE LOYALTY: This is especially important if you travel often. Staying loyal to an airline = STATUS.  Status = good things like: upgrades, lounge access, free checked bags, etc. In addition to gaining status with an airline, you will also acrew miles with them which you can later use to purchase plane tickets.

LOVE YO FACE: Nobody explained to me the importance of being kind to your face. If I saw a pimple, I had to destroy it. I overdosed on acne care products + constantly switched up my routine if I didn’t see immediate results. To make matters worse, I daily lathered my face with toxic foundation to cover it all up. EPP! My advice now is to be kind to your face + keep those ingredients simple + more natural! Get a good PH balancing facial cleanser (big fan), a quality moisturizer (this or this),  spot treatment (heyyyo!) sunscreen (this) and if you want to wear foundation make sure it’s one with good + natural ingredients (i love this!). Sunscreen often gets overlooked but don’t forget to add it to your daily face care routine. I always knew it was important when I went to the beach or pool but I didn’t know it was a good everyday kinda’ thing too!  It can prevent skin cancer, as well as, wrinkles from hitting you before your time. Freckles + a tan are cute but skin cancer is not.

INVEST: It could be in stocks or simply putting your dollazzz in a bank account that accrues interest overtime. It honestly doesn’t matter WHAT you do, just be smart + make it work for ya.

SELF CARE: Be intentional about carving out time for yourself to be quiet, reflect, meditate, etc. It won’t happen if you don’t make time for it! Also, consider seeing a counselor to work on those issues! It truly isn’t a step back but a leap forward. Investing in your personal wholeness will benefit every area of your life from work to romance + everything in between. Note: if you are a college student, your university may offer this service for free--take advantage of that!

HEALTH: Be mindful of what you put in your body. You cannot run on coffee, booze & donuts. Eat well, workout, drink lots of water + try natural alternatives before hitting the heavy antibiotics. There are simple things you can do like taking a good daily vitamin or keeping a nutrient packed granola bar in your bag/car (kind bars, RX bars + lara bars are my faves!).

xx,

Caryn Noel

DRAB

phone case

d å p p ė r \ the shark is back with a brand-spankin’ new suit + an uncanny portrait of himself from @drab.

Life is filled with the unexpected. When DRAB reached out to see if I (Courtney Ruth) would be interested in placing my illustrations on phone cases, I happily obliged. To be completely frank, I never imagined that something like this was possible.

Cheers to the unexpected!

Courtney Ruth

Durian

September 28, 2017 by sisteract

Try durian they said. You might just love it, they said. Listen, I tried durian and it sort of tasted like a cross between a thousand cloves of garlic, a spicy onion, tasteless guacamole, and a rotten mango. My tastebuds are still confused by the whole ordeal. There were moments I didn't want the experience to end and other moments I wished it never happened. In general, I love mangoes, guacamole, garlic, and onions.
